As laser altimetry directly delivers 3D data it is highly suitable for automated volumetric calculations in open-pit mining and excavation. This example shows a quarry. The DSM from the laser altimeter on the right was "sliced" along the red line in the reference image to show the vertical profile through the quarry. The color-coding indicates the wall shape of the excavations at different depths. |
